ABOUT ME
I worked long (six years off and on) and hard on courses for my doctorate and the dissertation was the original manuscript for every book I have written so far, but the most treasured accomplishments are when God uses me in the gifting He has given to make a difference in another’s life.
The fulfillment and sense of satisfaction I experience has nothing to do with this world or what this world has to offer. It is clearly supernatural because the power of our Lord and Savior makes it happen. And no matter how I mess it up it works! There is such freedom in that revelation!
Jon’s Story is a practical and honest guide to what Mark and I
did right, what we learned, and the common mistakes we and others make. If
consumers purchase and read Flying
Backwards they will be inspired to love the unlovable, persevere in defeat,
and see victory in the grace of God’s provision.
We progressed through the stages of grief repeatedly. I began seeing idiosyncrasies in Jon's
personality much sooner than Mark because I was at home with him moment by
moment. Jon was bright and
reactive to me so I dismissed them until he entered kindergarten and others
began noticing the odd behavior which became more pronounced in a new situation
with new pressure and expectations.
Even today as I look at old family videos I realize how much denial was
involved from the beginning.
Jon’s diagnoses progressed over the years from attention deficit
disorder (ADD), to obsessive /compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit
hyperactive disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder, bipolar disorder,
Asperger’s syndrome, depression with psychotic features and intermittent
explosive disorder, and finally schizoaffective disorder at age
fifteen.
He was expelled from four private schools, had four major
psychotic breakdowns with acute hospitalization required, tried at least
fourteen different medications and combinations of medications, enrolled in many
types of therapy finally resulting in residential care for almost two years when
suicidal and homicidal tendencies surfaced.
We were told by professionals as Jon aged that his case was
hopeless and we should permanently institutionalize him.
Prayer and relationship with the Lord prohibited us acting on this
advice. We brought Jon home
against medical advice and observed the miracle of a seven year abatement of
most symptoms.
In a safe, loving
environment Jon realized his need for the savior and in his last year began that
relationship and path to eternal life.
Jonathan IS whole and
healed! Within the pages of this
book I invite all to come along on this journey of growth and faith that assures
us of this reality.

Hello, my name is Nina. I received my Doctorate of Divinity at Shalom Bible College and Seminary August 6, 2010 in Des Moines, Iowa. I am writing my first book on prayer. The working title is "An Odyssey (epic voyage) of Deepening Prayer and Praise: Devotionals of a Lifetime Journey". It is a chronicle of my life as the Lord matured my prayer style to survive the suicide of my youngest son at 24 years of age due to severe mental illness. What the Lord painstakingly taught me over the past 24 years I desire to share with you.
II Corinthians 4:7-10 "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the LORD Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body."
